Turn the heat up on your text in Photoshop

 May 02, 2014

With all the filters included in Adobe Photoshop, some pretty wild things can be done to text. To expand text options even further, you can play around with both layer styles and filters to create limitless text treatments. The results can be some pretty cool looking (or, in this case, hot) text. We’ll show you how to quickly create this text effect because flames may be just what you need to spruce up your designs! This method is applicable to Photoshop CS2, Cs4, CS4 & CS5.

How to set your text ablaze in Photoshop

  1. Create red type on a transparent background.
  2. Select the text layer. In the menu bar, choose ‘Layer’ then ‘Layer Style,’ and select ‘Outer Glow.’ This will display the Layer Style dialog box. Apply a yellow glow.
  3. In the same dialog box, select ‘Drop Shadow’ from the Styles Blending Options area on the left hand menu. Apply an orange drop shadow and click OK. Also, when creating the drop shadow if you set the angle to -120, the flames will appear as if they are shooting upward.
  4. Select the text layer. In the menu bar, choose ‘Layer,’ find ‘Rasterise’ and then select ‘Type.’
  5. In the menu bar, choose ‘Filter’ then click ‘Liquify.’ The Liquify tools will appear and now, use the tools to fan the flames in an upward motion and click OK. To set your text ablaze in Photoshop
  6. Create a new layer using the Layers panel. Fill it with a white background colour, and send it behind the type layer.
