This two-day instructor-led course explores the Business Intelligence functionality of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Classic client from an IT professional’s point of view. The course explains the possibilities of performing business intelligence tasks on various online analytical processing (OLAP) clients using a Business Analytics (BA) database configured in Microsoft Dynamics NAV. The BA database, created in this training material and used in business intelligence analyses throughout the course, is based on the standard demonstration data of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009.

This course is intended for IT professionals responsible for developing company specific queries and reports through Business Analytics in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009. Customers wishing to develop a working knowledge of the setup and use of Business Analytics may also find this course valuable.

Module 2: Business Analytics Installation and Setup
This module describes how to install and set up Business Analytics (BA), both Basic and Advanced versions. The module explains the differences between the installation of the Basic version for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Classic with Database Server and with Microsoft SQL Server. The installation is performed on the default BA database available in the Cronus demonstration database. Finally, the Troubleshooting section provides a list of problems IT professionals can encounter while installing and setting up BA and gives solutions for them.

Module 3: Configuring a BA Database in Microsoft Dynamics NAV
This module describes how to create and set up a Business Analytics (BA) database on the Microsoft Dynamics NAV side before configuring the designed data on the Microsoft SQL Analysis Services side. In Chapter 2: Business Analytics Installation and Setup, the Configurator for SQL Server 2005 is run for the BA database which is already available in the demonstration database. This module demonstrates how to manually create new cubes, define each cube’s dimensions and measures, and set up other database components.

The second part of the module demonstrates how to use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio to browse a cube created in Chapter 3: Configuring a BA Database in Microsoft Dynamics NAV, and build a pivot table based on that cube.
