Overview:
For IT professionals, SharePoint 2010 offers enhancements to drive productivity, a scalable unified infrastructure, and flexible deployment and increased productivity. Features include a new streamlined Central Administration Web site, new capabilities to manage and monitor the SharePoint farm, and Windows PowerShell support.
Pre-requisites:
Attendees should have professional experience with system administration in a Windows network environment. Attendees should have previous experience installing and configuring Windows Server 2003 / 2008, Active Directory and SQL Server. It is recommended (but not required) that attendees have previous experience working with SharePoint sites from the user perspective. We require all attendees to successfully complete the following exam or go through a 15 minute skill validation interview:

Outline:
Module 1: Getting started with SharePoint 2010
In this module we will cover the fundamentals you need in place to get SharePoint off the ground. Topics included will be Windows Server, SQL Server, and hardware requirements. We will cover Windows Server, SQL Server and general Hardware basics.

Module 2: Install SharePoint Server 2010
This module will focus on installing SharePoint. Use of the prerequisite installer and the actual installation process will be covered. Once the install is finished the use of configuration wizard will covered to create a new farm. We will cover Prerequisite installer, SharePoint Setup, Configuration Wizard, farm passphrase and managed accounts.

Module 3: Configuring your SharePoint 2010 farm
In this module we will focus on the key configuration tasks now that SharePoint has been installed. The new service applications architecture is quite a departure from the Shared Services Provider (SSP) in 2007 and makes a host of scenarios now possible. We will cover Farm configuration wizard, Service applications and basic concepts of central administration.

Module 4: First Look SharePoint 2010
Now that your farm is ready to go you need to create that first web application to give your users access. And even there you still need a site collection and some webs. In this module we will make since of all that terminology and look at the new templates. We will cover Terminology, Web Applications, Site Collections and web templates.

Module 5: PowerShell for SharePoint
A SharePoint administrator?s first reaction is yuck but this tool is awesome. You need to in brace its awesome power for making your life easier. We will cover what is Windows PowerShell, basics of Windows PowerShell and look at Windows PowerShell scripts for administrators.

Module 6: SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 Upgrade
Everyone has SharePoint 2007 running around. We will take a look at the new options for preparing for upgrade and the various methods available. We will cover pre-upgrade steps, Upgrade options, and Strategies for the upgrade.

Module 7: SharePoint 2010 Backups and Restores with Failover
In this module we will make sure all of your data is safe. SharePoint 2010 has added several new options around making upgrade more flexible. We will cover Farm backups, Site collection, web, and list backups, Unattached restores and Windows PowerShell scripts to automate back and restore.

Module 8: Logging, Monitoring and Health
SharePoint 2010 has a whole list of new tools to make understanding what is going on in your farm much easier. This module will touch on the various options including the best practices analyzer. We will cover ULS Logs, The logging database, best practice analyzer and Usage reporting.

Module 9: SharePoint 2010 Search
SharePoint 2010 search has had massive improvements, including FAST integration. There are a lot of core changes to the underlying architecture to increase scale. And what better to do with that new scale then make the UI much cooler. We will cover Indexer changes, Query changes, new search web parts and have an Introduction to FAST.

Module 10: Using SharePoint 2010
We will cover all of the UI updates to SharePoint 2010 and what they mean to you the admin. We will cover Fluent UI (AKA the ribbon), Inline editing, Office client integration.

Module 11: SQL Server for SharePoint
SQL Server is the most important part of any SharePoint farm. It is where all of your data lives and is often the center of how well your performance is in your farm. In this module we are going to work through the proper care of feeding of SQL Server. We will look at SQL Maintenance plans, SQL Performance tuning and SQL high availability options.

Module 12: SharePoint Performance
SharePoint 2010 reaches new levels of scalability boundaries and to keep the farm running at those levels there are a handful of tools in your arsenal. We will look at Large list throttling, Performance throttling and the Developer Dashboard.
