There’s a greatly underutilised part of the Word screen that has a great deal of functionality. By default the Status Bar shows the page number, a word count and whether there are any spelling mistakes. By right-clicking on the Status Bar, many other functions can be displayed. The top seven most useful to me are:
- Section – displays the section number that the cursor is currently in
- Track Changes – shows if Track Changes is on or off and is a toggle button
- Upload Status – shows progress of a file’s upload to SharePoint or OneDrive
- Page Number – actual page number of the page
- Formatted Page Number – page number displayed in the header or footer
- Macro Recording – button for starting to record a macro
- Caps Lock – indicator that Caps Lock is on
So if you think any of these may be useful – go and add them!
