Over time, SharePoint has been used for many things of a similar ilk: collaboration, documents, search, dashboards, intranets, wikis, blogs etc. Microsoft have termed these under the generic word, "Portals."
Now they have a great opportunity to expand on the "Portals" and deliver new experiences that would have previously taken ages to build. From now, Office 365 will serve as a platform for NextGen Portals – which will be:
- Intelligent, leveraging Office Graph to deliver personalised and relevant information.
- Mobile, easy to access and consume content from any device.
- Social, integrating interactions from Yammer.
- Ready to go, to get you up and running quickly.
Office 365 Video, will be the first of many NextGen Portals for Office365. Initially, it will roll out to Office 365 First Release customers. It should then be rolled out worldwide by early 2015.
Let’s look at a few things in more depth.
Easy to manage and a great UI!
Video is arguably one of the most powerful mediums. Office365 Video provides companies with a secure destination for posting, sharing and discovering content. From new employee inductions to distributing a message to everyone, video is now something to power and enrich your internal communications. With a great UI and intuitive management, Office365 Video has both IT and users in mind. It is powered by Azure Media Services — the same service used during the 2014 Olympics (6,000 plus hours of video in 18 days). Office365 Video benefits from adaptive smooth streaming.
Simplicity. To upload a video, you drag and drop a video file into the web user interface, or upload from a mobile device. You then type a title and description and let the service take care of the rest.

Find and Share
Videos are easily searchable via enterprise search. All videos are discoverable in Office Delve (similar to documents, videos are automatically fed into the Office Graph).New Delve cards will have unique UI elements for videos: the Office 365 Video logo, the duration of the video (1:25), and a link to the channel the video comes from (THE GARAGE videos).
Every video page makes it easy to share directly into Yammer via inline conversations. You type in a message, add a group (or individual) to send to and click Post.
The conversation stays with the video in the portal, and can be accessed from the main Yammer UI or on devices via Yammer apps.Like documents, Yammer Conversations are accessible inline within a video’s dedicated player page.
