Duplicate animations with ease using PowerPoint's Animation Painter

 Nov 04, 2014

Adding animations to our PowerPoint presentations can add visual interest and help emphasise information being presented. It can also be quite time consuming getting animations just right.  PowerPoint 2010 and 2013 provide us with a useful tool that will allow us to copy animations, thereby duplicating an effect exactly with minimal effort. To copy an animation, do the following:
  1. Add an animation to an object or text. In the example below we have added a straight line motion path to the first shape so that it will enter from the left on click.PowerPoint-animation-painter1
  2. Select the object with the animations that you want to copy.
  3. On the "Animations" tab, in the Advanced Animation group, click on the Animation Painter.PowerPoint-animation-painter2
  4. Your cursor will change to look like this: PowerPoint-animation-painter3
  5. Click on the object that you’d like animate. It will immediately preview the same animation as the one copied.PowerPoint-animation-painter4
  6. Where you wish to copy the same animation to several objects, double click on the animation painter and then click each of the objects in turn. When you are finished applying the effects, click on the animation painter again to turn it off.
