Setting up an Azure AD Connect Staging Mode

 May 02, 2017

Azure AD Connect is now the latest directory synchronization tool supported by Office 365.  In case you aren’t familiar with the history, the Azure AD Connect tool was formerly known as Windows Azure Active Directory Synchronization or DirSync.

Azure AD Connect allows you to integrate your on-premises directories with Azure Active Directory. This enables a common identity for your users for Office 365, Azure, and SaaS applications integrated with Azure AD. One of the greatest benefits of this solution is the productivity gains you achieve.

The staging mode in Azure allows you to make changes to the configuration and preview the changes before making the server active.

During the final stages of Azure AD Connect installation, you will have the option to configure staging mode. This blog takes you through the process.

Steps to configure a staging server:

During the final stages of the Azure AD Connect installation, select the staging mode.

Once that is done, you will have to import https://nhaustralia.com.au/files/blog/and synchronize. in this step, you will have to select the connector as active directory domain services and perform a full import. at the end of this step you will be able to stage the changes to azure ad and on-premises ad.

In the next step you will need to inspect what is about to change before you actually start the export to the directories.

Finally you will have to switch the active server. On the currently active server, turn off the server so that it is not exporting to Azure AD and then run the installation wizard and disable the staging mode.

That’s it! You’re done.
