ICT50415 - Diploma of Information Technology Networking

Networking is one of the fastest growing areas of IT (especially cloud-based networks) and this course will give you the skills and knowledge you require to design networks and infrastructures. It will explain the theory and practice behind installations procedures, network security and business technology integrations.

What you will learn 

You'll learn how to install, configure and maintain computer, web and data networks. The skills you learn are those required of IT network administrators, network technicians or systems engineers in corporate IT teams, IT consultancies and IT support services. 

This course covers the essential skills in designing networks and managing infrastructure implementations.

As part of this qualification, you can gain a selection of Vendor Certifications. These certifications are not recognised against the Australian Qualifications Framework, but are recognised extensively within industry, locally and globally. 

How you will study 

Classes are run using a range of flexible delivery models. Some classes are instructor led (in class or online) whilst others are self-managed online study.

Classes are run in the Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth New Horizons campuses and you will have access to a dedicated instructor throughout the program.

You can plan your-own timetable based on scheduled class times within the 12-month period. We recommend you plan this with your Learning Solutions Advisor when commencing your study.

This combined in-class and online delivery approach provides great balance. It offers you maximum flexibility, whilst still getting direct access to accredited instructors and time to build a network with other students.

Competency

Competency will be assessed by way of written and practical assignments.

If you wish to gain Vendor Certification, you will be required to sit and pass dedicated Exams. Vendor Certification is optional, and incurs additional Exam costs.

Eligibility requirements 

There are no formal eligibility requirements. New Horizons Australia will assess your academic suitability to ensure you have the best chance of successful completion and value. The criteria our assessors determine suitability is by 

  • providing a copy of an Australian year 12 Certificate; or 
  • providing a copy of any other Certificate IV qualification (or above), or  

  • completion of a Core Skills Profile for Audits online assessment and passing at above Exit Level 3 under the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy. 

Timing 

This program is conducted over 12 months, and runs from June 2017 to June 2018. 

Course costs 

The total tuition fees are $11,400. 

You can elect to pay via: 

  • Self funding, where you pay your own fees by credit card, direct debit or cash 
  • VET Student Loans, which is an Australian Government income contingent loan, plus you pay the outstanding fee of $1,400 

Should you opt to complete the Vendor Certification exams an additional fee of AUD$1,519 will be payable. Exams can be done individually and cost approximately between AUD$235-$321.

VET Student Loan available 

These Diploma courses are eligible for a VET Student Loan from the Australian Government to assist you with paying for your tuition fees. VET Student Loan is an Australian Government Loan program available to Australian Citizens. For the ICT50415 - Diploma of Information Technology Networking, you can borrow a $10,000 VET Student Loan, which you will be required to pay back once you are earning above a certain threshold. 

The balance of the tuition fees can be made with $200 up front and $100 every month over the 12 month period. You can pay the remaining balance in one lump sum if preferred. 

Please note:

  • that a 20% government loan fee will be applied to the VET Student Loan amount
  • that VET Student Loans will not be approved for students who do not meet eligibility requirements
  • that a VET student loan gives rise to a HELP debt that continues to be a debt due to the Commonwealth until it is repaid
