DEEP DIVE Series: Training Skills for Managers and Coaches

4 Hours $0

I can’t understand why my staff keep making dumb mistakes. I’ve told them so many times before. Often when we are training staff, we are time poor. We possibly have had someone leave already or if the organisation is growing, it means we are under the pump.

Not only does time poverty create lousy trainers, unless managers have been taught otherwise they usually only teach from their own preferred learning style. This means that they may ‘miss’ landing their information with the trainee because it doesn’t fit their style.

Increasing a manager’s training capacity can:

  • Enhance staff skills
  • Assimilate information more effectively
  • Avoid the need for repetition

In this 4-hour workshop, we examine the structure and elements that make training effective as well as giving you the opportunity to train. We examine Adult Learning principles to consider how we learn then we complement this with two Learning Styles models. Finally, we give you an opportunity to construct and train another (or others depending on class size and timing).

NOTE: Please come with a prepared training of up to twenty minutes. It can be something from work or something that you could do as a pastime. For example people have taught how to tie a tie or make a paper plane or origami frog. It needs to be a skill-based training and something you can do in a classroom. You will need to be able to have the trainee carry out your instruction, so any equipment necessary needs to be simple e.g. if you tie a tie you will need a tie. Teaching how to turn on the alarm at work would not be doable in the classroom because (unless you have a mock device) you could not establish the trainee could do it after you have taught it.

This workshop is a part of New Horizons' DEEPDIVE series, that applies a 4-hour course format, assisting business professionals to save time, stay up to date with the skills that matter, and dive down into specific information that is important.
